Hillbilly Ten Commandments
Some people in Tennessee have trouble with all those "shalls" and "shall nots" in the in the Ten commandments. . Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms. So, some folks in middle Tennessee got together and translated the "King James" into "Jackson County" language,.... no joke, read on... The Hillbilly's Ten Commandments (posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Gainesboro, TN.)
(1) Just one God.
(2) Honor yer Ma &Pa.
(3) No tellin' tales or gossipin'.
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'
(5) Put nothin' before God.
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
(7) No killin.'
(8) Watch yer mouth.
(9) Don't take what ain't yers.
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff.
Now that's kinda plain an' simple, don't ya think? Y'all have a nice day.

#2 You shall not make for yourself an image, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, 6but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Maybe our brothers south of the border (of Kentucky, which is Injun for “land of tomorrow”) should have written it as such:
#2 "No whittling yourself a statue to take a hankerin after and bowing down to it and such…"
Also, Honor your Father and your Mother is actually the fifth commandment and not the 2nd!
The “Do not use the name of the Lord in vain” should be the 3rd
“No telling tales, etc…” is actually the 9th commandment, “you shall not bear false witness.” The Tennesseans seem to have repeated this one in their 8th commandment which says to “watch yer mouth.”
Also their 9th commandment (don’t take what ain’t yers) should actually be the 8th commandment, “Thou shalt not steal”.
Finally, I guess the 10th commandment is OK.
Their “Now that's kinda plain an' simple, don't ya think?” ain’t so plain and simple after all, but I will agree with their “Y'all have a nice day”
